2013 USA Marathon Champs ( Twin Cities Marathon )

Thoughts and Stuff, Upcoming Races / Josh Eberly 10/6/13 Comments

Today was a great day, even though I didn't achieve my top goal ( top 5 ). I did however achieve my other two goals : 1) Be confident in my pace! and 2) Be there!

The 2nd one "Be there" needs a little explanation. I have found that I usually race my best when I just compete and trust my gut. I felt great during the race and the pace was fine, so I went with it. I didn't really let the watch control me too much; just using it as a tool.

I know the exact spot or miles that hurt me. Miles 13-15, that is right when Nick took the lead and started to push, then the next mile Boit was pushing again. I was at the back of the pack hanging on at this point. In races, the champions and the legends are separated by mere split second decisions. I thought for a second, that this might be a little too fast, too early. The other thought that was going through my mind was, "if you are afraid to fail, then you will never succeed.." -- So I went with the surge.

After I crossed the finish line, I was already planning my next marathon race tactic. I thought if I just put myself in contention, then I would might have a break through. I guess, you never know until you try. Next time, I am getting to 21 or 22 before I do anything!
